The Story Behind the Design
The Crissman building was originally built in 1901 (with an expansion added on in 1904) by the owner of the Hotel St. James which operated just across Main Street. The Crissman family eventually took ownership of the building, and the location became home to the Crissman Pharmacy from around 1925 until 1966.
Thirty years ago, the northern two-thirds of the building were completely destroyed by a devastating explosion (caused by an unknown gas line). The Crissman family rebuilt the destroyed portion to match the original design. Today, the building is still in operation as the home of a number of businesses including the Sanders Chocolate Ice Cream Shoppe. Material:
