The Story Behind the Design
Since 1974, Dinosaur Hill Nature Preserve has been providing Rochester area residents with a hands-on education on local plants and wildlife. Located in the heart of Rochester just off of the Paint Creek Trail, Dinosaur Hill's walking paths, nature center, and educational programming has been an important part of the area's connection to nature for nearly 50 years.
Dinosaur Hill has a rather humble origin story. Some forward-thinking residents saw this "unusable" plot of land tucked behind a new subdivision development as an opportunity to preserve the area's natural beauty. Setting the stage for generations of locals (both young and old) to connect, reconnect, and learn through school field trips, classes, or wandering weekend walks around this 16-acre patch of land.
The name "Dinosaur Hill" comes from the local children who used to play on a pile of dirt that occupied the land prior to the preserve being developed. Dirt from the nearby neighborhood development was dumped in the area. The pile looked like a sleeping dinosaur to the kids and the name was born. ***A portion of proceeds are donated to Dinosaur Hill Nature Preserve***
