Lakeside Mall
The Story Behind the Design
Opened in Sterling Heights in 1976, Lakeside Mall became one of Metro Detroit’s defining shopping destinations. Its original anchors included Hudson’s, Sears, Crowley’s and JCPenney, with Lord & Taylor joining soon after. For decades it was where families shopped, teenagers met up and holiday traditions played out beneath one roof. When the enclosed mall closed in 2024 after 48 years, it ended an era for generations of east-side shoppers. This design brings back the Lakeside name from its heyday—before online carts replaced food courts and a Saturday at the mall was an event.
