Van Hoosen Farm Dairy
The Story Behind the Design
Dairy farming became the heart of Van Hoosen Farm under Dr. Sarah Van Hoosen Jones. She expanded the farm’s Holstein herd from 50 cows to 200 by 1944 and built a dairy operation known for scientific breeding and milk production. The 1927 Dairy Barn housed milking, bottling and the making of butter and ice cream. This design celebrates the working-farm side of Van Hoosen history—not just a preserved landmark, but a place where agriculture, innovation and everyday farm work helped shape the Rochester Hills story.
