For many students, Pete’s was a foundational part of their nightlife. It was home base. The place they both started and finished their nights. Tucked slightly away from the social epicenters of the day, Pete’s felt more like a neighborhood bar than a college bar…unless it was early Saturday morning on a game day.
Opening in 1985 and going strong for three decades, Pete’s truly left an indelible mark on the West Lafayette landscape as the birthplace of the breakfast club tradition.
Offering affordable (yet surprisingly strong drinks), live bands, penny beer nights, and a welcoming atmosphere Pete’s more than held its own until shutting down for good in the summer of 2012 when it was bought by the West Lafayette library for future expansion.
While I cannot think of a worse fate for such a fabled watering hole, the spirit of Pete’s lives on through game day traditions…and this vintage t-shirt. A classic design printed on a comfortable cotton/poly blend. Get yours today!
